The Berlin State Library (Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin – SBB) was founded in 1661. It is one of the oldest and largest libraries in Europe as well as the most important academic research centre of humanities and social sciences in the German speaking world. The Berlin State Library has over 11 million books and extensive special collections of national and world cultural heritage. The Berlin State Library belongs to the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz). The Library provides access to its materials in reading rooms in its two buildings in the centre of Berlin: Haus Unter den Linden 8 and Haus Potsdamer Straße 33, 10785 Berlin. Along with all of this, it is constantly expanding its digital library with digitised collections, electronic journals, extensive databases, etc.
